On this site you can find information about the Society, our lecture programme and details on how to become a member. There’s information about other Societies and to a range of ancient Egyptian websites that might be of interest to you.

A non-profit making organisation, the Society arranges study days which members and non-members can attend. Members can enjoy specially arranged trips to Egypt and other parts of the world to see collections and exhibitions.

Please browse our website to share with us the joy of ancient Egypt.

Whether you are new to Egyptology or an expert we will be happy to meet with you.  MAES is at the heart of a very lively community in Manchester which appeals to both professional and amateur enthusiasts alike.   There are many north west societies such as The Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society, The Horus Egyptology Society in Wigan, NEMES (North East Manchester Egypt Society), The Poynton Egypt Group near to Stockport, The Tameside Egypt Group, The Wirral Ancient Egypt Society (Merseyside) and more. MAES and other society members enjoy reciprocal arrangements with each other.

Manchester is also home to the Biomedical Research Centre at the University of Manchester directed by Professor Rosalie David.  The University of Manchester offers the Certificate in Egyptology and a variety of short courses  throughout the year.  Many of the tutors are active in the local Egyptology community.  They always need your support to keep courses viable; please support them when you can.
Finally, not forgetting one of the jewels of the Manchester area.  Our Chairman Bob and Treasurer Peter are Editor and Deputy-Editor of the world renowned "Ancient Egypt Magazine".  The magazine sells worldwide and is going from strength to strength, and it is something that we are very proud of at MAES.

MAES also has partner links with societies in South Africa and Malta.  Links to all the above are available throughout this site.
