ABOUT THE SOCIETY

Nepthys

The Manchester Ancient Egypt Society (MAES) was set up in 1987 and is one of the longest running Egyptology Societies in Great Britain (apart from the Egypt Exploration Society, which had a head-start of over 100 years!!!). Since those early days, the society has grown steadily and has now over 250 members.

Monthly Lectures

MAES, as our members affectionately know it, organises an annual lecture programme for members. Well-known Egyptologists have always been included in the list of our speakers, but we have always encouraged our own members to provide lectures and talks on their own specialist subjects. Many of our members have gone on to become established lecturers in their own right and now give talks to other Egyptian societies in the UK.

Visits and Trips

We are a very friendly society and the monthly lectures are a great opportunity to make new friends and share your interest in ancient Egypt, especially with other like-minded people.

We arrange visits to museums which have Egyptian collections, both in Britain and abroad, and we have even organised our own trips to Egypt, to study and experience the country at first hand.

So, if you wish to come to one of our meetings or attend any of our study days, then get in touch with us.
